The poison artist / by Moore, Jonathan,1977-author.(CARDINAL)353948;
Caleb, a toxicologist, is dealing with a terrible fight that ended when his girlfriend, Bridget, threw a glass at him, leaving his face bloodied, and then walked out. Now, he's drowning his sorrows in a small, out-of-the-way bar called the House of Shields, trying to forget his torpedoed relationship. When a mysterious woman catches his eye, Caleb becomes obsessed with finding her but instead finds himself answering questions posed by two detectives from the San Francisco Police in conjunction with the disappearance of another man from the same bar. Caleb helps his best friend, Henry, who happens to be the medical examiner, run a toxicology analysis on a body that was found floating in the bay and finds that the man died from poison. As more bodies surface, Caleb connects with his mystery woman, and soon they're engaging in an odd relationship that may or may not have something to do with Caleb's terrible past.

Toxicological emergencies : A to Z encyclopaedia of poison & antidotes : saving toxic lives from autopsy knives where there is no toxicologist toxicolegal mnemonics, easy recalls, tell me why's / by Kochar, Shiv Ratan,author.; Venugopalan, Poovathumparambil,author.; Verma, Vivekanshu,editor.;
Includes bibliographical references (685).As life in the modern era has become more complex, so has the study of Toxicology. There are innumerable potential toxins that can inflict harm to humans, including pharmaceuticals, herbals, household products, environmental agents, occupational chemicals, drugs of abuse, and chemical terrorism threats. This book is intended to assist the Toxicologists in learning the pertinent toxicities of various agents seen in clinical practice. It has become increasingly difficult for healthcare providers to learn these facts with the emergence of numerous and vastly different pharmaceuticals, abused drugs, chemicals within the work place, and agents of terrorism. As the editors, we considered numerous topics in alphabetical order for inclusion in this Encyclopaedia. It is our hope that this book will provide both a rapid insight into specific toxins for toxicologists caring for potentially poisoned patients and a valuable resource for toxicology students pursuing their education.

American poison : a deadly invention and the woman who battled for environmental justice / by Stone, Daniel(Daniel Evan),1985-author.(CARDINAL)632811;
Includes bibliographical references (pages 301-337) and index.Author's note -- The side door -- A periodic quest -- A very great deal of unfortunate publicity -- The thundering herd -- Phasedown."From the national bestselling author of The Food Explorer comes the untold story of Alice Hamilton, a trailblazing doctor and public health activist who took on the booming auto industry--and the deadly invention of leaded gasoline, which would poison millions of people across America. At noon on October 27, 1924, a factory worker was admitted to a hospital in New York City, suffering from hallucinations and convulsions. Before breakfast the next day, he was dead. Alice Hamilton was determined to prevent such a tragedy from happening again. By the time of the accident, Hamilton had pioneered the field of industrial medicine in the United States. She specialized in workplace safety years before the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was created. She was the first female professor at Harvard. She spent decades inspecting factories and mines. But this time, she was up against a formidable new foe: America's relentless push for progress, regardless of the cost. The 1920s were an exciting decade. Industry was booming. Labor was flourishing. Automobiles were changing roads, cities, and nearly all parts of American life. And one day, an ambitious scientist named Thomas Midgley Jr. triumphantly found just the right chemical to ensure that this boom would continue. His discovery--tetraethyl leaded gasoline--set him up for great wealth and the sort of fame that would land his name in history books. Soon, Hamilton would be on a collision course with Midgley, fighting full force against his invention, which poisoned the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the basic structure of our brains. American Poison is the gripping story of Hamilton's unsung battle for a healthy planet-and the ramifications that continue to echo today"--
