The Wright brothers and their development of the airplane / by Craig, Barbara,1943-author.(CARDINAL)174377;
Includes bibliographical references (page 23).Most people are interested in the efforts of Wilbur and Orville Wright, who demonstrated in 1903 that it was possible for man to fly. Their story is one of ideas and perseverance. The fact that the first successful flight occurred near Kitty Hawk makes the story of particular interest to North Carolinians. Miss Barbara Craig, a student at St. Mary's Junior College, Raleigh, wrote the story for her class assignment; her professor, Mr. Carl F. Cannon, Jr., was so impressed with the material that he submitted the manuscript to the State Department of Archives and History for publication. The illustrations of the Wright Brothers and the monument near Kitty Hawk are from the Department of Conservation and Development. The picture of the DC 8-B jet is used by courtesy of Eastern Air Lines, Inc. Other pictures in the pamphlet are from the files of the department. Appreciation is hereby expressed to those cooperated by furnishing illustrations.--
