Cristianismo Y Posmodernidad by Magnin, Lucas,1985-(CARDINAL)798906;

Plagues, Pandemics and Viruses : From the Plague of Athens to COVID 19 / by Quinlan, Heather E.,author.(CARDINAL)849743;
In this latest work, Quinlan (Weapons and Warfare) presents non-technical explanations of more than plagues, pandemics, and viruses--She also covers societal effects of plagues and pandemics, and an overview of living with pathogens. Chapters vary in length, but all mange to be thorough. Included are overviews of chapters detailing early medical history, vaccine development, various plagues, sexually transmitted infections, coronaviruses (including the common cold, MERS, SARS, COVID-19), and pathogens. Information is current, accurate, and presented in an interesting, simple, straightforward manner. More of a standard nonfiction book than a reference book; this title would be a stronger if it included footnotes or endnotes as well as chapter bibliographies. While the resource list at the end of the book includes works ranging from 1918-2020, it does not pick up works referred to within the text and sidebars. Similar titles like On Pandemic (2020) by David Waltner-Toews and Plagues and the Paradox of Progress (2019) by Thomas J. Bollyky are better suited to reference use. VERDICT Delightful, enjoyable and informative but not reference quality and unwieldy as a reference work. Will appeal to anyone public library patrons interested in basic, jargon-free information on pandemics and viruses.
