- Seismic pavement analyzer operations manual with technical specifications / by Baker, Mark Richard,1954-(CARDINAL)323587; Crain, Kevin.(CARDINAL)323583; Nazarian, Soheil,1955-(CARDINAL)323585; University of Texas at El Paso.Center for Geotechnical and Highway Materials Research.(CARDINAL)323584; Strategic Highway Research Program (U.S.)(CARDINAL)298325;
This report describes an instrument for monitoring conditions associated with pavement deterioration that was designed and constructed as part of the Strategic Highway Research Program. The conditions measured are voids or loss of support under a rigid pavement; moisture infiltrating asphalt concrete pavement; fine cracking in pavements; delamination of overlays; and aging of asphalt. These conditions of deterioration are determined by estimating Young's and shear moduli in the pavement, base, and subgrade from the wave propagation measurements. The details of the instrument are described. This report includes a user's manual along with the technical specifications for the device.Executive summary -- Introduction -- Start-up and main menu operations -- Acquisition -- Analysis -- Table setup -- Menu and interpretation templates -- Directory structure -- Appendix A: System design -- Appendix B: Troubleshooting.

It measures voids or loss of support under a rigid pavement, moisture infiltration in asphalt concrete pavement, fine cracking in pavements delamination of overlays, and aging of asphalt. is report describes the device and summarizes the usefulness of the equipment in maintenance activities. The operation of the SPA to determine different types of distress precursors is briefly illustrated. This report discusses results from several field tests. The specifications and design of different components of the device and a manual of operation are presented in a companion report.
