- AASHTO LRFD bridge design guide specifications for GFRP-reinforced concrete bridge decks and traffic railings. by American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.(CARDINAL)138446;
Includes bibliographical references.Section 1. Introduction -- Section 2. Bridge decks -- Section 3. Railings -- Section 4. Material specifications -- Section 5. Construction specifications.Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) materials have emerged as an alternative material for producing reinforcing bars for concrete structures. GFRP reinforcing bars offer advantages over steel reinforcement due to their noncorrosive nature and nonconductive behavior. Due to other differences in the physical and mechanical behavior of GFRP materials as opposed to steel, unique guidance on the engineering and construction of concrete bridge decks reinforced with GFRP bars is needed. These guide specifications offer a description of the unique material properties of GFRP composite materials as well as provisions for the design and construction of concrete bridge decks and railings reinforced with GFRP reinforcing bars.

- A guide to small sign support hardware / by AASHTO-AGC-ARTBA Joint Cooperation Committee.Subcommittee on New Highway Materials.Task Force No. 13.(CARDINAL)315771; American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.(CARDINAL)138446; American Road & Transportation Builders Association.(CARDINAL)290580; Associated General Contractors of America.(CARDINAL)150694;
Includes bibliographical references (page 227).Introduction -- Fastener components -- Post components -- Sign support systems -- References.Most small highway signs are supported by rolled steel shapes, extruded aluminum shapes, wood posts, steel flange-channel shapes, round tubes, pipes, square steel tubes or fiber reinforced plastic shapes. These may be used in a variety of ways to meet the dual requirements of (1) providing support for signs under a broad range of environmental conditions and (2) releasing when struck by a vehicle to minimize the chance of injury to vehicle occupants. This guide is a compilation of proprietary and non-proprietary small sign support hardware.

Includes bibliographical references (page 79).Background -- Scope -- Test matrix -- Pendulum -- Test article -- Data acquisition -- Data analysis -- Results -- Conclusion -- Appendix A: Data plots of data obtained from accelerometers and strain gages -- References.Test report;This report contains the test setup and results from six pendulum crash tests performed at the Federal Outdoor Impact Laboratory (FOIL) located at the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center in McLean, Virginia. The tests were conducted on steel W-beam rail elements rigidly anchored at both ends (a four-post configuration). The tests were conducted as part of an ongoing research effort to obtain baseline data on the dynamic properties of standard steel W-beam in order to develop a design envelope for a fiber reinforced plastic rail element. The nominal weight of the FOIL pendulum with a rigid nose assembly was 912 kg. The tests were conducted at nominal speeds ranging from 20 km/h to 35 km/h. Results from the tests are presented as test summaries of data, graphs of data, and photographs taken before, during, and after the tests.Performed by MiTech Incoporated for the Federal Highway Administration, Office of Safety and Traffic Operations Research and Development, under contract no.
