- Relative justice [sound recording] / by Whitlow, Robert,1954-author.(CARDINAL)346003; Godfrey, Matt(Narrator),narrator.;
Performed by Matt Godfrey.David Cobb is not a typical lawyer; he's more interested in dispensing God's wisdom than pertinent legal advice. High-stakes litigation is way outside his comfort zone. For many years, Zeke Caldwell has been concocting home remedies made from natural ingredients found in the coastal marshes. One of his remedies proved so effective that he patented it with the help of David's father. Now, he suspects a big drug company has stolen his formula. What he doesn't know is that the theft has deeper, more evil roots. When Zeke asks David to help fight the drug company, David knows this is beyond his expertise and experience. But there's another legal mind in the family. David's sister-in-law, Katelyn Cobb, is a rising star attorney in a prestigious Washington, DC, law firm. Life's circumstances compel the lawyers to face personal obstacles and struggles that threaten to rip apart the fabric of the family. The fight for Zeke requires all the relatives to unite for justice.

So he sued them. Contreras gives us the view from inside as Hansen and his team of ACLU lawyers, along with a committed group of activists, scientists, and physicians, take their one-in-a-million case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. The result is a compelling story about how society must balance scientific discovery with corporate profits and the rights of all people. -- adapted from jacket

- Patent models index : guide to the collections of the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution / by National Museum of American History (U.S.)(CARDINAL)157693; Janssen, Barbara Suit.(CARDINAL)287942;
Includes bibliographical references and indexes.v. 1. Listings by patent number and invention name -- v. 2. Listings by inventor and residence of inventor.This two-volume catalog consists of four indexes providing information on more than ten thousand patent models housed throughout the National Museum of American History's collections. These nineteenth century artifacts are the original models submitted to the United States Patent Office by their inventors. In Volume 1, the Listing by Patent Number sorts the NMAH patent models chronologically by the issued patent number. The Listing by Invention Name organizes the patent models alphabetically by the name of the invention. In Volume 2, the Listing by Inventor organizes the NMAH patent models alphabetically by the inventor's last name. The Listing by Residence sorts the patent models by residence of the inventor at the time of patent issue by country, state, and city. The patent number is a unique number that ties all of the indexes together. Issued by the Patent Office at the granting of a patent, the number links the model to its patent specification. The terminology used is consistent with the Subject-Matter Index of Patents for Inventions Issued by the United States Patent Office from 1790 to 1873, compiled by Mortimer D. Leggett, Commissioner of Patents in 1874.

- A patent lie : a novel / by Goldstein, Paul,1943-(CARDINAL)150215;
Michael Seeley, the tough-but-wounded hero of Errors and Omissions, has resigned from his high-powered Manhattan law firm to work as a sole practitioner in Buffalo. Business is slow, so when his estranged brother, Leonard, a doctor, flies in from California to beg him to take on a suit for patent infringement on an AIDS vaccine, Michael is in little position to say no. He agrees to take the case, replacing the former lead lawyer who apparently committed suicide. Trading the dismal climes of Buffalo for the sun-kissed landscape of Silicon Valley, Seeley soon finds out the financial stakes are so staggering that murder can scarcely be ruled out as a hardball tactic.

- Land causes, Accomack County, Virginia, 1727-1826 / by Nottingham, Stratton.(CARDINAL)126133;
The land causes, or chancery suits, for dower, division of lands, and ejectment proceedings for the period 1727-1826 give in full the declaration of the plaintiff, the answer of the defendants, the verdict of the jury, and depositions, which in many cases give the dates of birth, marriage, and death of the parties concerned in the suit. Land is traced from the original patent to about 1825, showing the various owners and their descendants through several generations. The records include those of the district court as well as the county court and name about 4,000 individuals. The abstracts in most cases are the special verdicts of the juries, which sum up and give in concrete form the declarations and answers to the various suits. Other than wills and administrations, these land records are among the very few surviving Accomack County records that document family origins and descents.--From publisher description.

- Relative justice [large print] / by Whitlow, Robert,1954-author.(CARDINAL)346003;
"For the attorneys at Cobb and Cobb, the pursuit of justice is about more than legal expertise; it's a family matter. David Cobb is not a typical lawyer--he's more interested in dispensing God's wisdom than pertinent legal advice. High-stakes litigation is way outside his comfort zone. For many years Zeke Caldwell has been concocting home remedies made from natural ingredients found in the coastal marshes near Wilmington, North Carolina. One of his remedies proved so effective that he patented it with the help of David's father. Now he suspects a big drug company has stolen his formula. What he doesn't know is that the theft has deeper, more evil roots. When Zeke asks David to help fight the drug company, David knows the suit is beyond his expertise and experience. But his sister-in-law, Katelyn Cobb, is a rising star attorney in a prestigious Washington, DC, law firm. The courtroom is her second home. Could she help? Would she even consider it? Life's circumstances compel the lawyers to face, not only patent piracy, but personal obstacles and struggles that threaten to rip apart the fabric of the family. The fight for Zeke requires all the relatives to unite for justice. Praise for Relative Justice: "Robert Whitlow's legal expertise shines in Relative Justice, a story of patent infringement and illegal gains, but it's his characters who will steal the readers' hearts. Katelyn Martin-Cobbs, her husband Robbie, and his family face trials that allow them to heal old wounds and forge new bonds. Whitlow's fans are sure to enjoy going along"--
