- Marines / by Colburn, Colin.; Colburn, Colin, $e author.;
One of the military's most famous and celebrated branches, the United States Marine Corps, emerged from the American War of Independence capable of fighting both at sea and on shore. Designated a component of the US Navy in 1834, the Marines participated in the Civil War, the Spanish-American War (1898), the Boxer Rebellion (1901), and World War I. But the Corps truly came into its own during World War II, when half a million Marines fought the Japanese army across the Pacific, famously capturing the island of Iwo Jima and, later, Okinawa. Since then, the Marines have played a central role in the Korean War, Vietnam War, invasion of Grenada (1983), Persian Gulf War (1991), and global war on terrorism.

- Marines : an illustrated history : the US Marine Corps from 1775 to the twenty-first century / by Hearn, Chester G.,author.contributor.; Camp, Richard D.,author.;
Includes bibliographical references (pages 218-220) and index.Leathernecks are respected as the elite on countless battlefields around the world; read how they have earned it. The United States Marine Corps's history is one built on tenacity. A handful of bedraggled and unappreciated ships' guards known as Continental Marines more than 230 years ago grew to become, in the twenty-first century, a superb, multi-functional, ready-response force combining ground, air, and sea power. With their own ships, aircraft, and special operations capability, Marines have become the most versatile, self-sufficient, all-encompassing, ready-response warriors on the planet. They fly fighter-bombers, helicopters, and surveillance planes, and are equipped with the very best weapons and gear. The transformation has never been smooth. Besides fighting on distant shores or quelling disturbances at home, the Marines have had to battle against penurious politicians and interservice rivals.

A biography of Johnny Joey Jones : no Surrender - the inspiring story of how Jones transformed his life after losing his legs, a Marine and a survivor /
Johnny Joey Jones, a devoted bomb technician in the Marines, fearlessly served his country in the perilous landscapes of Iraq and Afghanistan. Bound by unbroken bonds of battle, he forged profound connections with his fellow servicemen and women, ready to lay down his life to safeguard the freedoms he held dear. But on August 6, 2010, his life changed forever. He stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) that blew off both his legs above the knee and severely damaged his right arm. He survived the blast, but his partner did not. He faced a long and painful recovery process at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he had to learn how to walk again with prosthetic legs. He also had to deal with the emotional trauma of losing his limbs and his friend. But he did not let his injuries define him or defeat him. He decided to turn his tragedy into a triumph, and to use his experience as a source of inspiration and hope for others. He became a motivational speaker, sharing his story of resilience and gratitude with various audiences. He became an advocate for veterans' causes, serving on the boards of several veterans' organizations. He became a media personality, hosting shows and podcasts on Fox News Media platforms. He also became a college graduate, an author, a husband, and a father.
