Season 1, episodes 1-8 (3 discs) -- season 2, episodes 1-8 (3 discs) -- season 3, episodes 1-8 (3 discs) -- season 4, episodes 1-16 (3 discs) -- season 5, episodes 1-8 (3 discs) -- season 6, episodes 1-8 (3 discs).Kirk Acevedo, Ernie Hudson, Terry Kinney, Rita Moreno, Harold Perrineau, J. K. Simmons, Lee Tergesen, Eamon Walker, Dean Winters, Betty Buckley, Barry Levinson, Tom Fontana.Oz is the nickname for the Oswald State Correctional Facility, formerly Oswald State Penitentiary, a maximum-security prison. Many of the plot arcs are set in "Emerald City" ("Em City"), an experimental unit of the prison in which the unit manager Tim McManus (Terry Kinney) attempts to emphasize rehabilitation and learning responsibility during incarceration. Emerald City is an extremely controlled environment where there are a controlled number of members of each racial and social group. The first episode introduces two inmates: meek lawyer Tobias Beecher (Lee Tergeson), who transforms from a vulnerable lamb on a DUI sentence to a fearless, drug-addicted wildcat, and Muslim activist Kareem Said (Eamonn Walker), a fiercely non-violent leader whose campaign for reform often conflicts with fellow inmates. Gradually the viewer is introduced to other major players and their gangs, including neo-nazi Vernon Schillinger (J. K. Simmons), drug-supplier Simon Adebisi (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Latino inmate Miguel Alvarez (Kirk Acevedo), violent murderer Chris Keller (Christopher Meloni), and wheelchair-bound Augustus Hill (Harold Perrineau), who largely narrates the entire series. Outside Em City, the viewer finds the staff of the prison, including prison counselor Sister Peter Marie Reimondo (Rita Moreno), Warden Leo Glynn (Ernie Hudson), prison doctor Gloria Nathan (Lauren Velez), and prison chaplain Father Ray Mukada (B. D. Wong). It is the interaction between these units -- the prisoners and the staff -- and the multiple issues raised in an incarceration setting that set the plot in motion.DVD, region 1, widescreen presentation, Dolby Digital 5.0.
