- The nocebo effect : when words make you sick / by Bernstein, Michael(Michael H.),editor.; Blease, Charlotte,editor.(CARDINAL)888932; Locher, Cosima,editor.(CARDINAL)888931; Brown, Walter A.(Walter Armin),1941-editor.(CARDINAL)785309; Mayo Clinic,issuing body.(CARDINAL)139544;

Undoubtedly, the vaccine has saved, and will continue to save, countless lives. While we should appreciate these innovations of modern-day medical science, the vaccine has not been universally accepted, hampering our efforts to reduce harm. Side-effects of the COVID vaccine are widely discussed in news outlets. Countless online discussion boards teem with anecdotes of people feeling sick after getting jabbed. This is no surprise as we construct stories to describe and find meaning in our experience. Human ancestors may have shared such stories around the campfire; in modern times, we have a vast array of social media platforms which may serve the same evolutionary function. But lost in this discussion of side effects, and ignored by the CDC, vaccine experts and the media, is the inconvenient fact that a significant portion of these side effects are not actually caused by the vaccine. Instead, they are the result of our negative expectations, the so-called nocebo effect. The nocebo effect stems from the Latin word nocere, which translates roughly as "to harm" and can be best summarized as the occurrence of a harmful event that stems from consciously or subconsciously anticipating or expecting it. We are just discovering the power behind this phenomenon, as explored in the groundbreaking research of a dozen top level researchers. While there has never before been such a massive demonstration of the nocebo effect as with the COVID vaccine, there are myriad other examples throughout history, and recent studies have documented the critical role of the nocebo effect in treatment side effects--such as with statins for high cholesterol--and the psychological and social processes that produce these effects, such as the higher incidence of complaints after negative media reports of certain medicines, all the way to the illnesses associated with the Havana Syndrome, during which dozens of US government employees fell ill after reportedly being exposed to an unidentified sound wave. Most importantly, researchers have investigated strategies that can be adopted by both clinicians and patients to reduce the nocebo effect"--

- The Pfizer papers : Pfizer's crimes against humanity / by Wolf, Naomi,editor.(CARDINAL)360245; Kelly, Amy(Editor),editor.; Bannon, Stephen K.,writer of foreword.(CARDINAL)350278|COVID-19 vaccinesResearch;
Includes bibliographical references (pages 379-380)"Based on the primary source Pfizer clinical trial documents released under court order, and related medical literature, The Pfizer Papers features stunning new reports written by WarRoom/DailyClout research volunteers. These expose the facts that Pfizer's mRNA Covid-19 vaccine clinical trial was deeply flawed; that Pfizer knew by November 2020 that its vaccine was neither safe nor effective; knew by February 2021 that the injection was linked to a myriad of serious, even fatal, adverse events; and knew by April 2021 that the injections damaged the hearts of young people. This book reveals that the US Food and Drug Administration--which asked the court to suppress these documents for 75 years--also knew about the shortfalls of Pfizer's clinical trial and about the harms caused by the company's mRNA Covid vaccine product. The FDA's abject failure to fulfill its mission to '[protect] the public health by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, and medical devices' allowed catastrophic damage to be inflicted on the US and global public"--Provided by publisher.

Includes bibliographical references (pages 359-394) and index."The story of the worldwide scientific quest to decipher the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, trace its source, and make possible the vaccines to fight the Covid-19 pandemic."--Scientists have warned for decades that the next big pandemic would be caused by a changeable new virus - very possibly a coronavirus - but such warnings were ignored for political or economic reasons. This book takes readers inside the frantic international effort to understand and control SARS-CoV-2 (aka COVID-19), peering over the shoulders of the scientists who led the chase and found the way to fight the virus. The author shows how new viruses emerge from animals into humans as we disrupt wild ecosystems, and how these viruses adapt to the human hosts - sometimes causing global catastrophe. -- Adapted from jacket.

- Vaccination : examining the facts / by Rosner, Lisa,author.(CARDINAL)373415;
Includes bibliographical references and index."Everyone has opinions about vaccines, but what are the facts? This resource provides clear, unbiased, and up-to-date information on vaccination, which protects the world's populations not only from pandemics like Covid-19 but other dangerous diseases as well"--"This latest addition to the series is the first reference work on vaccines written through the lens of the COVID-19 pandemic. It asks--and answers--questions raised by the pandemic, such as how vaccines work, what causes side effects, and how COVID-19 vaccines were developed so quickly. It also addresses broader questions, such as how to protect vaccine supply chains and how to prevent public health issues from being politicized. In addition to correcting or clarifying well-known misinformation and misunderstandings about vaccines (such as false claims that they have been linked to autism), this book also provides up-to-date research on ways to counter disinformation and decrease vaccine hesitancy." -- Publisher's web site.
