Elizabeth Bradford : time + terrain / by Bradford, Elizabeth,artist.(CARDINAL)364293; Hanzal, Carla M.,curator,interviewer.(CARDINAL)272604; Blowing Rock Art and History Museum,host institution.(CARDINAL)266607;
Elizabeth Bradford is a native Carolinian with deep roots in the rural landscape. During much of her career she has worked to record the traditional look of farmland before it is lost. Her work has centered in images drawn from her rural community and her family's ancestral farm in north Mecklenburg County where she lives. In recent years she has painted the countries where she has traveled and expanded the scope of her work to include the wilderness, which she studies during backpacking and kayaking expeditions. Bradford's work explores intricate formal patterns found in nature. Ranging in scale from small and intimate to large and enveloping, her vibrant paintings reflect her personal perception of color. Though representational, there is a connection with the traditions of abstract art, as well as the Pattern and Decoration movement and Pop Art. Bradford's paintings investigage landscape and the power of place, with special affection for the Southeast.

Drawing & painting trees in the landscape / by Nice, Claudia,1948-(CARDINAL)331457;
In this title, Claudia Nice turns her attention to trees, revealing how to draw and paint realistic, expressive trees, foliage and landscapes in all popular media. This title shows how to observe trees either in the field or in photos, how to accurately draw species' shapes, then interpret colours, shapes and textures on canvas. Step-by-step demonstrations range from extreme textural close-ups of leaves and bark to full landscapes with trees as the main subject. It covers a range of styles from botanical to loose watercolours, and includes colour charts to show how to mix the varying shades of foliage and bark.

The veil has been lifted on a fascinating world -- the world of plant intelligence -- which could be the answer to many of today s technological and environmental problems.
