Tom Szaky, the founder of the award-winning nonprofit, environmental company TerraCycle, introduces each and explains what he's learned about it in his personal life and with TerraCycle. He and Albe Zakes then provide a graphic historical timeline of each material's use in commercial goods--from how it's manufactured to what happens when it's throw out--an analysis of its impact on the environment now and tomorrow; suggestions for DIY projects to save it from the trash bin, and lists of helpful resources. They also include sidebars and definitions, fun and quirky facts, lists of reuse ideas, quotes, and illuminating interviews that add depth and insight"

For sewers who want to know how to make use of their fabric stash and avoid waste, this collection of 25 makes has the answer. It's a perennial problem for crafters: you have a little fabric left over from a major project, too much to throw it away and not enough for another big make. Sewing Stashbusters has the eco-friendly answer, 25 projects specially chosen to use up the odd yard or less of fabric, so you'll have a clear stash drawer and a clear conscience. To keep you organized while you craft, there are pincushions, knitting bags, and a knitting needle roll. For when you are out and about, you might want to make yourself some backyard bunting, or a patchwork coat for your dog. For your wardrobe, make a pretty tie-on collar with buttons from your store, or sew-on patches for your denim. And at home you can make a cat-shaped doorstop or a Dachshund draft excluder. Pockets, pouches, and coin purses can be made in contrasting pieces of fabric, while puffs and rosettes will use up even the smallest pieces in your stash.

Sustainable crafts, gifts and projects for all seasons / Becci Coombes. by Coombes, Becci,author.(CARDINAL)881999;
"Take advantage of nature's bounty and craft in time with the seasons! Whether potting up dandelion honey, cooking and crafting with rose petals or preserving autumn leaves and acorns, there are so many wonderful gifts, ornaments and treats that can be made from either a short walk in the woods or a rummage in your cupboard. With an emphasis on foraging and upcycling, Becci explores the ways we can create beautiful projects using materials readily available in the garden and home. Upcycled projects include gorgeous home textiles woven from bed linen, mini lampshade fairy lights for a summer's evening and even a fabulous picnic table from an old suitcase. Capture the breeze of autumn with wind chimes made from old necklaces and cutlery and learn how to felt old sweaters, turning them into cosy wreaths, brooches and purses for winter. There is also a section on working with willow, with projects encompassing everything from woven bird-feeders (with home-made fat balls!) to festive ornaments"--
