- Laboratory evaluation of Verglimit and PlusRide / by Stuart, Kevin D.(CARDINAL)286921; Mogawer, Walaa S.(CARDINAL)286920; United States.Federal Highway Administration.(CARDINAL)139839;
Includes bibliographical references (pages 108-111).Introduction and objectives -- Literature review -- Experimental program: Phase I -- Evaluation of Verglimit: Phase I -- Evaluation of PlusRide: Phase I -- Evaluation of Verglimit: Phase II -- Evaluation of PlusRide: Phase II -- Structural analysis using vesys-3am -- Conclusions and recommendations -- Appendices -- References.Final report;The effects of two additives, Verglimit and PlusRide, on the laboratory properties of asphalt mixtures, in terms of their resistance to aging, moisture damage, rutting, and low temperature cracking, were determined. These two additives have been used to control the formation of ice on pavements. Field studies have mainly consisted of determining the action of the additives on melting ice and the related change in the number of traffic accidents. The effects of these two additives on laboratory mixture properties were not established in these field studies. Both Verglimit and PlusRide are added directly to the asphalt mixture at the mixing plant.Sponsored and performed by Office of Engineering and Highway Operations R & D, Federal Highway Administration. - Stream stability at highway structures / by Lagasse, Peter F.(Peter Frederick),1937-(CARDINAL)327627; United States.Federal Highway Administration.(CARDINAL)139839; Ayres Associates.(CARDINAL)328982;
Includes bibliographical references (pages 131-134)."This document provides guidelines for identifying stream instability problems at highway stream crossings and for the selection and design of appropriate countermeasures to mitigate potential damages to bridges and other highway components at stream crossings. It is a metricated update of the version published in 1991 under Contract No. DTFH61-89-C-00003. The HEC-20 manual covers geomorphic and hydraulic factors that affect stream stability and provides a step-by-step analysis procedure for evaluating stream stability problems. Guidelines and criteria for selecting countermeasures for stream instability problems are summarized, and the design of three countermeasures (spurs, guide banks, and check dams) is presented in detail. Conceptual design considerations for many other countermeasures are summarized"--Technical report documentation page.Sponsored by Office of Technology Applications, HTA-22, Federal Highway Administration, and performed by Ayres Associates, formerly Resource Consultants & Engineers, under contract to GKY and Assoc.,

These include sawing and sealing asphalt concrete (AC) overlays of PCC pavements, cracking and seating PCC pavements prior to AC overlay, and constructing a thin bonded PCC overlay on top of the existing PCC pavement. Condition surveys, deflection testing, and roughness measurements were performed on a total of 55 sections. The performance of these sections was evaluated and the effectiveness of each overlay type analyzed.Performed by ERES Consultants for Office of Engineering and Highway Operations R&D, Federal Highway Administration, under contract no.
