Carson Sports Collection.
Materials in this collection were amassed by Charles Terry Carson, a native of Lillington, when he was a young boy. The collection includes: Five scrapbooks filled with newspaper clippings about baseball and football, both professional and collegiate, from the early 1940's. The collegiate clippings are primarily about University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill teams. Clippings are undated and source cannot be determined but are probably from Raleigh papers. A small autograph album with autographs collected between 1943-1947 of college athletes, primarily from UNC Chapel Hill although some Duke students are included. A five page list, handwritten by Terry Carson, of the signatures in the album accompanies it. Twenty-nine black and white photos of baseball players taken from an unidentified baseball magazine. Each page is marked "Published by the Baseball Magazine Company, New York" and gives the name of the photographer. Magazine, "The Official National Collegiate Athletic Association Football Guide 1945." Magazine, "Intercollegiate and Professional Football" 1949 issue featuring Charlie "Choo Choo" Justice of UNC on the cover.
