Service life of retroreflective traffic signs / by Black, K. L.(Kent L.)(CARDINAL)319629; United States.Federal Highway Administration.(CARDINAL)139839; Bellomo-McGee, Inc.(CARDINAL)311201;
Includes bibliographical references (pages 106-107).Introduction -- Literature review -- Data collection -- Data description -- Predictive equations -- Validation -- Summary and recommendations -- Appendices -- References.Draft report;The ability to predict coefficient of retroreflection (RA) values for inservice traffic signs is critical for the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Sign Management System (SMS). Within the SMS, tools for predicting inservice retroreflective performance of traffic signs and for determining the motorist's visual needs are required. The research which focuses on the motorist's needs in terms of traffic sign luminance, legibility distance, conspicuity, etc., is on-going by others. The project reported on here evaluated the effects of climatological and geographic variables on sign sheeting deterioration. A national data collection effort was undertaken. Data samples from 6,275 traffic signs were collected across the country.Sponsored by Office of Safety and Traffic Operations R&D, Federal Highway Administration, under contract no.

Fur & claws / by Miller, Tessa,author.(CARDINAL)793675;
"One fall day, a Swiss engineer was hiking with his dog. Soon the dog was covered in cockleburs, which held fast to its fur. After years of study and experimentation, the engineer invented Velcro, with hooks and loops just like the cockleburs. What woud life be like without Velcro? In Animal Tech: Fur & Claws, readers will learn about six life-changing technoogies that have been inspired by mammals. They will follow the stories of the scientists and engineers who have harnessed mammals' abilites, developing them into powerful technologies that have shaped our world."--Back cover.770LAges 10-15.Accelerated Reader ARAccelerated Reader AR
