Balancing subjects of interest to both growers and florists, the book covers topics such as vase life, post-harvest handling, and flower characteristics. Comprehensive and practical, this is the essential reference to the commercial flowers that are sold in florist shops every day. Introductory chapters provide information on cultivation methods; harvesting and shipping techniques; cultivar development; marketing trends; and the basic principles of the selection, handling, and use of flowers and foliage. Plant descriptions include geographical origin, historical overview, colors, scents, vase life, quality criteria (how to select for quality), and advice on the proper care and handling of flowers. The book features separate common name indexes to the most familiar and well-known cut flowers, foliages, and potted flowers; and a comprehensive index to all the scientific and common names mentioned in the text.
