- Dieta de noticias : cómo dominar la avalancha de información y pensar con mayor claridad / by Dobelli, Rolf,1966-author.(CARDINAL)545259; Bigorra, Lourdes,translator.; Translation of:Dobelli, Rolf,1966-Die Kunst des digitalen Lebens.Spanish.;
News is to the mind what sugar is to the body. In 2013 Rolf Dobelli stood in front of a roomful of journalists and proclaimed that he did not read the news. It caused a riot. Now he finally sets down his philosophy in detail. And he practises what he preaches: he hasn't read the news for a decade. Stop Reading the News is Dobelli's manifesto about the dangers of the most toxic form of information - news. He shows the damage it does to our concentration and well-being, and how a misplaced sense of duty can misdirect our behaviour. From the author of the bestselling The Art of Thinking Clearly, Rolf Dobelli's book offers the reader guidance about how to live without news, and the many potential gains to be had: less disruption, more time, less anxiety, more insights. In a world of increasing disruption and division, Stop Reading the News is a welcome voice of calm and wisdom.

- Enshittification : why everything suddenly got worse and what to do about it / by Doctorow, Cory,author.(CARDINAL)663116;
We're living through the Enshittocene, the Great Enshittening, a time in which the services that matter to us, that we rely on, are turning into giant piles of shit. It's frustrating. Demoralizing. Even terrifying. Enshittification identifies the problem and proposes a solution. When Cory Doctorow coined the term enshittification, he was not just finding a funner way to say 'things are getting worse.' He was making a specific diagnosis about the state of the digital world and how it is affecting all of our lives (and not for the better). The once-glorious internet was colonized by platforms that made all-but-magical promises to their users--and, at least initially, seemed to deliver on them. But once users were locked in, the platforms turned on them to make their business customers happy. Then the platforms turned to abusing their business customers to claw back all the value for themselves. In the end, the platforms die. Doctorow's argument clearly resonated. Once named, it became obvious that enshittification is everywhere, so much so that the American Dialect Society named it its 2023 Word of the Year, and was cited as an inspiration for the 2025 season of Black Mirror. Here, now, in Enshittification the book, Doctorow moves the conversation beyond the overwhelming sense of our inevitably enshittified fate. He shows us the specific decisions that led us here, who made them, and--most important--how they can be undone.

- Code dependent : living in the shadow of AI / by Murgia, Madhumita,author.(CARDINAL)895111;
Includes bibliographical references (pages 280-300) and index.Introduction -- Your livelihood -- Your body -- Your identity -- Your health -- Your freedom -- Your safety net -- Your boss -- Your rights -- Your future -- Your society -- Epilogue."On the surface, a doctor in rural India, a food delivery worker in Pittsburgh, and an activist exiled from China have nothing in common. Yet their lives are linked by their unexpected encounters with artificial intelligence, from technology that marks children as future criminals to an app that is helping to give diagnoses to a remote tribal community. In Code Dependent, Madhumita Murgia shows how automated systems are reshaping our lives all over the world. AI has already infiltrated our day-to-day existences through social media algorithms and language-generating chatbots such as ChatGPT. But it's also affecting us in more insidious ways. It touches everything from our interpersonal relationships to our kids' education, our work, finances, public services, and even our human rights. By highlighting the voices of ordinary people in places far removed from Silicon Valley, Code Dependent explores the impact of a set of powerful, flawed, and often exploitative technologies on individuals and wider society. It also reveals the immense power a small group of companies in Northern California exerts over communities and governments worldwide. The ways in which algorithms and their effects are governed in the coming years will profoundly impact us all. Yet we cannot agree on a common path forward. We cannot decide what preferences and morals we want to encode in these entities--or what controls we may want to impose on them. We are collectively relinquishing our moral authority to machines. Madhumita Murgia's brilliant book not only sheds light on this chilling phenomenon but also charts a path of resistance. AI is already changing what it means to be human, in ways large and small, and Murgia reveals what could happen if we fail to reclaim our humanity."--
