Includes bibliographical references (pages 389-437) and index.Zooarchaeology -- Zooarchaeological history and theory -- Basic biology -- Ecology -- Disposal of faunal remains and sample recovery -- Gathering primary data -- Secondary data -- Humans as predators: subsistence strategies and other uses of animals -- Control of animals through domestication -- Evidences for past environmental conditions -- Conclusions -- Index."Zooarchaeology is a detailed reference manual for students and professional archaeologists interested in identifying and analyzing animal remains from archaeological sites. It draws on material from all over the world, covering a time span from the Pleistocene to the nineteenth century AD with the emphasis on animals whose remains inform us about many aspects of the relationships between humans and their natural and social environments, especially site formation processes, subsistence strategies, and paleoenvironments. The authors discuss suitable methods and theories for all vertebrate classes and molluscs, and include hypothetical examples to demonstrate these. There are extensive references and illustrations to help in the process of identification."--Jacket.

- Monitoring the effects of highway construction in the Sedgefield Lakes watershed / by Line, Daniel E.(CARDINAL)305346; North Carolina State University.Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering.(CARDINAL)171816; North Carolina State University.Water Quality Group.(CARDINAL)219546; North Carolina.Department of Transportation.Research and Analysis Group.(CARDINAL)272064;
Final report;This report summarizes the results of a water quality monitoring project to document the effects of the construction of the I40 bypass around Greensboro on the water quality of residential lakes in the Sedgefield and King's Mill communities. Automated monitoring equipment were installed at 4 locations downstream of the highway corridor in the drainage area to the Sedgefield lake, while in the King's Mill community, automated equipment was installed upstream and downstream of the corridor. At each monitoring site, discharge was monitored continuously and samples of stream discharge collected on a flow-proportional basis throughout the project. All samples were analyzed for total suspended solids (TSS), total solids, and turbidity, while selected samples were also analyzed for nitrogen and phosphorus forms. A recording raingage was also maintained for all of the monitoring period in the Sedgefield lakes watershed and in-situ measurements of temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, and pH were made periodically at each site.Performed by NCSU Water Quality Group, Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department NC State University; sponsored by N.C. Dept. of Transportation Research and Analysis Group.Includes bibliographical references (page 20).

- Guidebook for selecting methods to monitor airport and aircraft deicing materials / by Caudell, Dennis.(CARDINAL)312067; Ervin, Mark.(CARDINAL)312068; United States.Federal Aviation Administration.(CARDINAL)139906; Airport Cooperative Research Program.(CARDINAL)307624; Gresham, Smith, and Partners.(CARDINAL)307627; National Research Council (U.S.).Transportation Research Board.(CARDINAL)141287; Terra Hydr, Inc.(CARDINAL)312066;
Includes bibliographical references (page 53).[Pt. 1] Text -- [pt. 2 ] Fact sheets (On-site monitoring methods #58-100)This report provides a step-by-step process for identifying, evaluating, and selecting methods to monitor storm water that is subject to runoff containing deicing materials. The guidance addresses identifying the parameters to be monitored and discusses the appropriateness of various monitoring methods and instrument types to meet an airport's specific needs. The guidebook also provides recommendations for setup, operation, and maintenance of each monitoring method. The guidebook also includes helpful appendices that define relevant technical terms and provide sample outreach materials to help communicate the selection process to nontechnical stakeholders. Technical information on various on-site monitoring methods is provided in a series of fact sheets. These fact sheets, which are organized by the parameter being monitored, describe key factors such as how the method works, its current level of adoption within the industry, implementation considerations, cost, and advantages/disadvantages.Research sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration
