- Foundry sand facts for civil engineers / by United States.Environmental Protection Agency.(CARDINAL)144059; United States.Federal Highway Administration.(CARDINAL)139839; Foundry Industry Recycling Starts Today (FIRST); TDC Partners Ltd.(CARDINAL)680026;
Ch. 1. An introduction to foundry sand -- Ch. 2. Foundry sand in structural fills and embankments -- Ch. 3. Foundry sand in road bases -- Ch. 4. Foundry sand in hot mix asphalt -- Ch. 5. Foundry sand in flowable fills -- Ch. 6. Foundry sand in portland cement concrete -- Ch. 7. Foundry sand in other engineering applications.Metal foundries use large amounts of sand as part of the metal casting process. Foundries successfully recycle and reuse the sand many times in a foundry. When the sand can no longer be reused in the foundry, it is removed from the foundry and is termed "foundry sand." Foundry sand production is nearly 6 to 10 million tons annually. Like many waste products, foundry sand has beneficial applications to other industries. The purpose of this document is to provide technical information about the potential civil engineering applications of foundry sand. This will provide a means of advancing the uses of foundry sand that are technically sound, commercially competitive and environmentally safe.Performed by TDC Partners Ltd and FIRST, and sponsored by Federal Highway Administration, Environmental Protection Agency.

- How do reservoirs work? / by Shea, Therese,author.(CARDINAL)463688;
Wanted: water -- Service reservoirs -- Embankment reservoirs -- Valley-dammed reservoirs -- Ancient engineering -- Reservoirs today -- Reservoirs from start to finish -- Evaporation setbacks and solutions -- Settling sediment -- Environmental impact.A reservoir is a man-made body of water used to store water for populations to use. Reservoirs are used to provide water for drinking, cooking and bathing. They provide farmers with a source of water for their crops. Reservoirs are also used as a source of recreation for boaters, swimmers, and vacationers. Readers will be amazed to learn about the history of reservoirs and the scientific and technological advances that make them possible. This volume places a strong emphasis on STEM topics, and represents both social studies and science curricula. - The first true Hitchcock : the making of a filmmaker / by Miller, Henry K.(Editor),author.;
Includes bibliographical references and index.The embankment at midnight -- The reputation and the myth -- No old masters -- The autocrat of the studio -- To catch a thief -- The first true Hitchcock -- Stories of the days to come -- Wilshire Palms."This untold origins story of the filmmaker excavates the first true Hitchcock film and explores its transatlantic history. Hitchcock called The Lodger "the first true Hitchcock movie," anticipating all the others. And yet, the story of how The Lodger came to be made is shrouded in myth, often repeated and much embellished, including by Hitchcock himself. The truth-revealed in new archival discoveries-is stranger still. The First True Hitchcock follows the twelve-month period encompassing The Lodger's production in 1926 and general release in 1927, presenting a new picture of this pivotal year in Hitchcock's life. Henry K. Miller situates The Lodger against the backdrop of a continent shattered by war and confronted with the looming presence of a new superpower, the United States, whose most visible export was film. This previously untold story of The Lodger's making in the London fog, and attempted remaking in the Los Angeles sun, is the story of how Hitchcock became Hitchcock. "--
