- Wife number seven / by Brown, Melissa,author.(CARDINAL)807742;
Lipstick. Bright, red lipstick. Nothing but lipstick. Even though it's against our faith to wear a color that screams of sexual promiscuity and deviant behavior, I'm not allowed to protest. But, I want to. So badly. You see, there's more to me than the braid that spills down my back. More to me than the layers of heavy fabric that maintain my modesty. And so much more than the oppressive wedding band that adorns my finger--the same band that each of my sister wives wear. So much more. To protest would be sinful. I must keep sweet, that is my duty. So I'll wear the lipstick. I'll do as I'm told. And I'll do my best to silence the resistance within me, to push him from my mind. If only my heart would do the same.

- Duane's depressed : a novel / by McMurtry, Larry.(CARDINAL)139604;
Sequel to: TexasvilleAt 62, ever-dependable oil man Duane Moore ditches his pickup and starts walking everywhere--deeply deviant behavior in one-stoplight Thalia, Texas. "It occurred to him one day--not in a flash, but through a process of seepage, a kind of gas leak into his consciousness--that most of his memories, from his first courtship to the lip of old age, involved the cabs of pickups." Yet oddly enough, Duane's marriage, four children and nine grandchildren, his career highs and lows, all occurred when he was nowhere near his vehicle. "He realized that for the first time in his life he had too much time to think; of course he had wanted more time to think, but that was probably because he hadn't realized how tricky thinking could be." The final book of the marvelous trilogy McMurtry began with The Last Picture Show and Texasville.

- The alcoholics / by Thompson, Jim,1906-1977,author.(CARDINAL)742028;
"Dr. Peter S. Murphy needs fifteen thousand dollars by the end of the day, or the city of Los Angeles can say goodbye to the El Healtho clinic. A recovery center for the most severe cases of alcoholism in the state--even if no one ever does quite seem to get dry there--El Healtho has been the bane of Dr. Murphy's existence ever since he started running it. But now that its doors are about to close forever, Dr. Murphy finds he'll do anything to keep it open. Up to and including admitting Humphrey Van Twyne III, a patient with an extremely violent past whose wealthy family has the means to keep El Healtho open for business. Sure, the man isn't exactly an alcoholic. And yes, what he really needs is to be under the care of the surgeons who performed the lobotomy that's rendered Van Twyne all but a vegetable. But the money's good--until the rag-tag group of ne'er-do-wells at El Healtho begin to wreak havoc with Dr. Murphy's plans, and suddenly no one day has ever seemed so long. A literary precursor to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, THE ALCOHOLICS is Thompson like you've never read him before, a pitch-black, mad-cap portrait of deviant behavior that is at once darkly comic, humane and harrowing"--

- The dysfunctional library : challenges and solutions to workplace relationships / by Henry, Jo,author.(CARDINAL)406541; Eshleman, Joe,author.(CARDINAL)356140; Moniz, Richard,author.(CARDINAL)356139;
Includes bibliographical references and index.The dysfunctional self -- Dysfunctional organizational culture -- Incivility in the work environment -- Toxic behaviors of staff -- Organizational deviance and workplace politics -- Poor communication in the workplace -- Conflict management -- Ineffective collaboration -- Difficulties with team composition -- Leading away from library dysfunction.Frankly, it's not something we like to talk about. There is an unfortunate stigma to acknowledging workplace dysfunction, let alone trying to grapple with the problem. But negative behaviors such as incivility, toxicity, deviant behavior, workplace politics, and team and leadership dysfunction not only make the library a stressful workplace, they also run counter to the core values of librarianship. An important tool for library leaders and managers as well as library staff, this book examines these negative relationship-based issues and suggests practical, research-based solutions by discussing the importance of understanding oneself as related to the library workplace; identifying attributes specific to libraries that foster personal success; showing how organizational dysfunction is rooted in problems such as poor communication, inadequate leadership, and lack of employee engagement; breaking down relatable scenarios to analyze what's behind them and how to defuse them, ranging from a gossipy coworker who fails to contribute to the organization to workplace bullying and mobbing; exploring causes, results, and potential solutions in the areas of cyberloafing, fraud, theft, and sabotage; delving into the importance of conflict management, surveying a variety of approaches and applications; examining the use of teams in libraries and the impact of favoritism, nepotism, and sexism; and providing techniques for successful collaboration, leadership, organizational communication, and other key management topics. By tackling the dysfunctional library head on, managers as well as library workers who find themselves in a toxic situation will be poised to better meet library goals and move the library forward.

Cressey.Book on criminological research studies and theories in the areas of crime, delinquency and social process. The emphasis in this book, however, is not exclusively on the problems of explaining what statistical distributions of crime and delinquency mean and how individuals become criminals and delinquents. The reader should be aware that as one examines statistical distributions of delinquency and crime rates and offender characteristics one must pay close attention to variables that relate to the settings and circumstances under which the statistics were collected. Once social scientists simply analyzed the available statistical facts. The datum for study is the process by which the statistical information is assembled, not just the final assembly. For example, arrest statistics are often used as the basis of generalizations about the social class distribution of delinquency and crime, but there is systematic underreporting of crimes of respectable segments of the society. Thus, among the selections reprinted in this book are research studies, descriptive accounts, and essays devoted to the illegal activities of businessmen, labor union officials, physicians, politicians, policemen, and middle-class youngsters. The theoretical framework of this book is designed to make these violations just as understandable as the criminal violations of persons in the lower socioeconomic class.
