- Mauricio and Tomás Lasansky : father and son. by Lasansky, Mauricio,1914-2012,artist.(CARDINAL)355870; Loving, Charles R.,writer of added text.(CARDINAL)355868; Lasansky, Phillip,writer of added text.; Miliotes, Diane Helen,editor.(CARDINAL)264848; Lasansky, Mauricio,1914-2012.Prints.Selections.; Lasansky, Tomás.Prints.Selections.; Snite Museum of Art,originatoranizer,host institution.(CARDINAL)172252;
"Mauricio Lasansky (1914--2014) is one of the fathers of twentieth-century American printmaking, having taught printmaking at the University of Iowa for forty years. His work can be found in private collections and in over 140 museums nationwide, as well as in Europe and in Latin America. During his long career he had more than 250 solo shows in thirty-five countries and he received six honorary doctorate of arts degrees. While his son Tomás Lasansky (b. 1957) studied at the University of Iowa (B.F.A., 1979; M.A., 1983; and M.F.A., 1984), his art education began much earlier. As a five-year-old, he made drawings depicting his parents' African art collection, worked in clay and wax, and made prints alongside his father. The youngest in a family of visual, literary, and performing artists, he grew up mingling with artists and visiting art museums. Indeed, Tomás Lasansky asserts that he was raised in a museum--a reference to his parents' extensive collection of art from many cultures. Tomás Lasansky's work is deeply influenced by his classical, academic training--one could argue that he served a traditional apprenticeship with a master artist. He credits his father with helping him 'to understand what it is to be a professional artist'"--Provided by publisher.

- Dog sense : how the new science of dog behavior can make you a better friend to your pet / by Bradshaw, John,1950-(CARDINAL)348990;
Includes bibliographical references and index.Where dogs came from -- How wolves became dogs -- Why dogs were-- unfortunately-- turned back into wolves -- Sticks or carrots? The science of dog training -- How puppies become pets -- Does your dog love you? -- Canine brainpower -- Emotional (un)sophistication -- A world of smells -- Problems with pedigrees -- Dogs and the future."Dogs have been mankind's faithful companions for tens of thousands of years, yet today they are regularly treated as either pack-following wolves or furry humans. The truth is, dogs are neither--and our misunderstanding has put them in serious crisis. What dogs really need is a spokesperson, someone who will assert their specific needs. Renowned anthrozoologist Dr. John Bradshaw has made a career of studying human-animal interactions, and in Dog Sense he uses the latest scientific research to show how humans can live in harmony with--not just dominion over-- their four-legged friends. From explaining why positive reinforcement is a more effective (and less damaging) way to control dogs' behavior than punishment to demonstrating the importance of weighing a dog's unique personality against stereotypes about its breed, Bradshaw offers extraordinary insight into the question of how we really ought to treat our dogs"--Provided by publisher.

- Man's search for meaning [audio-enabled device] / by Frankl, Viktor E.(Viktor Emil),1905-1997,author (CARDINAL)147109; Solomon, Theo,narrator; Blackstone Audio, Inc,publisher,distributor(CARDINAL)346395; Playaway Products, LLC,publisher (CARDINAL)868990;
Read by Theo SolomonWe needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life-daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual. When Man's Search for Meaning was first published in 1959, it was hailed by Carl Rogers as "one of the outstanding contributions to psychological thought in the last fifty years." Now, more than forty years and 4 million copies later, this tribute to hope in the face of unimaginable loss has emerged as a true classic. Man's Search for Meaning--at once a memoir, a self-help book, and a psychology manual-is the story of psychiatrist Viktor Frankl's struggle for survival during his three years in Auschwitz and other Nazi concentration camps. Yet rather than "a tale concerned with the great horrors," Frankl focuses in on the "hard fight for existence" waged by "the great army of unknown and unrecorded." Viktor Frankl's training as a psychiatrist allowed him a remarkable perspective on the psychology of survival. In these inspired pages, he asserts that the "the will to meaning" is the basic motivation for human life. This simple and yet profound statement became the basis of his psychological theory, logotherapy, and forever changed the way we understand our humanity in the face of suffering. As Nietzsche put it, "He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how." Frankl's seminal work offers us all an avenue to greater meaning and purpose in our own lives-a way to transcend suffering and find significance in the act of living.Adult.Issued on Playaway, a dedicated audio media player

- SEAL camp / by Brockmann, Suzanne,author.(CARDINAL)343966;
"Navy SEAL Lieutenant Jim "Spaceman" Slade's got a problem. A SEAL Team is only as fast as its slowest member -- and right now, thanks to his battered knees -- that's Jim. He reluctantly takes medical leave, but he's a SEAL, so he spends his "vacation" as an instructor, helping out a former Senior Chief who runs a camp for SEAL wannabes. But to Jim's shock, he finds himself falling for the one woman attending the camp session -- an obviously brilliant but seemingly timid lawyer who is determined to do everything her way, no matter how wrong. Ashley DeWitt's got a problem, too. She's a kickass lawyer, but when it comes to her personal life, she's a total pushover. When she finds herself hiding behind her condo Dumpster to avoid a confrontation with an ex, she decides enough is enough and signs up for a session at a camp called SEAL World, in hopes she'll discover how to be more assertive outside of the courtroom. And then she's assigned to Jim's team... When an alpha male -- smart, funny, strong, but terrified of a future trapped behind a desk -- collides with a smart, funny, and quietly strong woman with a troubled past, sparks fly hot and fast. The tall, dark, and dangerous Navy SEALs of Team Ten are back, with reader favorites like Lucky, Joe Cat, Bobby Taylor and his wife Colleen, Thomas King, Rio Rosetti -- and with Suzanne Brockmann's signature blend of love, laughter, and a hint of danger in SEAL Camp."--Page 4 of cover.
