Years later, still very close to Sulamit, Friedrich discovers his father's past and severs himself from the family and moves to Germany for a scholarship to study politics. Sulamit secures a scholarship to study in Germany as well and reunites with Friedrich, who unbeknownst to her has become deeply involved in revolutionary activities in response to fascist governments around the world.
