Saved by the pharaoh's daughter Bithiah, he is adopted by her and brought up in the court of her brother, Pharaoh Seti. Moses gains Seti's favor and the love of the throne princess Nefertiri. He also gains the hatred of Seti's son, Rameses. When his Hebrew heritage is revealed, Moses is cast out of Egypt, and makes his way across the desert where he marries, has a son and is commanded by God to return to Egypt to free the Hebrews from slavery. In Egypt, Moses's fiercest enemy proves to be not Rameses, but someone near to him.MPAA rating: G; 1923 version and special features not rated.DVD.Academy Award for Best Special Effects; Academy Award Nominations for Best Picture, Best Cinematography (Color), Best Art Direction/Set Decoration, Best Costume Design (Color), Best Film Editing, and Best Sound Recording.

Theodore Roberts, Charles de Rochefort, Estelle Taylor."With its cast of thousands and imaginative use of early special effects, director Cecil B. DeMille's original silent 1923 version of The Ten commandments is truly one of the greatest epics to come out of 1920s Hollywood. Its unique storyline moves back and forth in time to show the relevance of its Old Testament morality to contemporary (circa1923) immorality. Complementing DeMille's powerful silent screen drama is Gaylord Carter's digitally recorded score, performed on a magnificent Wurlitzer organ."--ContainerNot ratedDVD, Full screen (4:3) presentation, Dolby Digital 2.0 English; Region 1, NTSC.
