- How to think more effectively : a guide to greater productivity, insight and creativity / by School of Life (Business enterprise)(CARDINAL)357291;
"We know that our minds are capable of great things because, every now and then, they come out with a brilliant idea or two. However, our minds are unpredictable, spending large stretches of time idling or distracting themselves. This is a book about how to regularly and generously produce the sort of insights and ideas we need to fulfil our potential and achieve the contentment we deserve. Among other things, we learn how to grasp fragile and flighty thoughts before they disappear through anxiety and fear; at what times of day to try to work and for how long; how to make use of our boredom and instincts; and how to overcome timid and predictable approaches to the largest problems. The result is an operating manual to that most wondrous, though intermittent and always baffling, organ: the human mind."--Page [4] of cover.

Telfair's butter account with Mrs. Delia Sanders, 1859-1860; records of plantation productions, overseers, boarders, and guardianships, 1841-1868 (including receipt from "Virginia Department" for "work of Merritt" (slave); accounts from estate of John Sanders, 1830-1833; and a register kept by descendant Bettie Lee Sanders of attendees at a family reunion, including two former slaves, in 1831.Baldy Sanders (1797-1866) was a member of one of Johnston County's leading slave-holding families. - The FastDiet : lose weight, stay healthy, and live longer with the simple secret of intermittent fasting / by Mosley, Michael,1957-(CARDINAL)403001; Spencer, Mimi,1967-(CARDINAL)403000;
"Is it possible to eat anything you want, five days a week, and become slimmer and healthier as a result? Simple answer: yes. You just limit your calorie intake for two nonconsecutive days each week to 500 calories for women, 600 for men. You'll lose weight quickly and effortlessly, and the joy of the FastDiet is that the side effects are all welcome. The science is easy. Intermittent fasting takes your body out of go-go mode and puts it into survival mode, causing the body to slow production of new cells and repair old ones instead. As a result, you not only lose weight but also reduce your risk of a range of diseases from diabetes and arthritis to cardiovascular disease and even cancer. On top of that, you slow the aging process and boost your brain power. This book brings together the results of new, groundbreaking research to create a dietary program that can be incorporated into your busy daily life, featuring: Forty 500- and 600-calorie meals that are quick and easy to make 8 pages of photos that show you what a typical "fasting meal" looks like the cutting-edge science behind the program. A calorie counter that makes dieting easy, and much more. Far from being just another fad, the FastDiet is a radical new way of thinking about food, a lifestyle choice that doctors are actually recommending for general health. This is your indispensable guide to effective weight loss without sacrificing the foods you love and a scientifically proven way to have your cake and eat it, too"--"This new diet allows users to eat whatever they like five days a week and then fast (consuming 500-600 calories/day) for two nonconsecutive days--and lose weight quickly and easily"--Includes bibliographical references (pages 219-226) and index.The science of fasting -- The FastDiet in practice -- Menu plans -- Testimonials and tweets -- Calorie counter.

- Problems in aerial surveys of waterfowl in eastern Canada / by Chamberlain, E. Burnham(Edward Burnham),1895-1986.(CARDINAL)203549; Kaczynski, Charles F.(CARDINAL)851371; U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.(CARDINAL)138186;
Includes bibliographical references (page 13).Abstract -- History of study -- The problems -- Stratifying samples according to black duck densities -- Establishing the phenology of the nesting cycle -- Stratifying for phenological difference -- Discussion -- References.Banding is one of the most important elements in the study of migratory game bird populations. Over 3,100 woodcock were banded in North America during 1965, with major programs conducted in Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, and West Virginia.Experimental surveys of waterfowl breeding populations in eastern Canada have been conducted intermittently since 1949 to develop a procedure for making reliable estimates of breeding populations and production of black ducks and Canada geese in this region. This report reviews in detail the black duck breeding population surveys. The vastness of the breeding range precludes complete coverage; even the amount of sampling required for sound predictions is a major consideration. Several approaches to stratified sampling failed to produce a useful plan. Variations in phenology within the survey area appear to be a major factor in developing a reliable sampling plan; a method that takes these variations into account is presented. Analysis of data from 4 years gave trends in breeding population size that agreed generally with trends in corresponding winter population data; previous interpretation methods did not produce this agreement.

Cane Fire critically examines the island's history -- and the various strategies by which Hollywood has represented it--through four generations of director Anthony Banua-Simon's family, who first immigrated to Kauaʻi from the Philippines to work on the sugar plantations. Assembled from a diverse array of sources -- from Banua-Simon's observational footage, to amateur YouTube travelogues, to epic Hollywood dance sequences -- Cane Fire offers a kaleidoscopic portrait of the economic and cultural forces that have cast Indigenous and working-class residents as "extras" in their own story."--DVD ; English 5.1 or 2.0.Best Feature Documentary, Indie Memphis Film Festival, 2020Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary Feature, Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, 2021Jason D.
