What do they contribute to science learning? What can they contribute to science learning? What is the current status of labs in our nation s high schools as a context for learning science? This book looks at a range of questions about how laboratory experiences fit into U.S. high schools."--NAP Web site.

Featuring filmmaker Marco Williams and reporter Elliot Jaspin.Camera, Stephen McCarthy ; editors, Kathryn Barnier, Sandra Christie ; original art by Karen Zasloff ; music composed by David Murray.Recorded DVD."[R]ecounts the forgotten history of racial cleansing in America, when thousands of African Americans were driven from their homes and communities by violent racist mobs in the late 19th and early 20th centuries ... The film places these events in the context of present day race relations, by following three concrete cases of towns that remain all-white to this day (Forsyth County, Georgia; Pierce City, Missouri; & Harrison, Arkansas). [The film] raises the larger question -- will the United States ever make meaningful reparations for the human rights abuses suffered, then and now, against its African American citizens? Can reconciliation between the races be possible without them?"--Container.Forsyth County, Georgia -- Search for family deeds -- Journalistic research -- Pierce City, Missouri -- Harrison, Arkansas -- Fragile truce : Pierce City and Forsyth County -- Reparations.

- Long-term changes in beach fauna at Duck, North Carolina / by Diaz, R. J.(CARDINAL)305643; DeAlteris, J. T.(CARDINAL)305642; Coastal Engineering Research Center (U.S.)(CARDINAL)161589;
Bibliography: pages 47-48.Long-term changes in the beach fauna at Duck, North Carolina, were investigated. Twenty-one stations located on three transects on the oceanside and twenty-four stations located on three transects on the sound side were sampled seasonally from November 1980 to July 1981. The data collected in this study were compared to a previous study conducted in 1976 (Matta, 1977) to investigate the potential effects of the construction of the CERC Field Research Facility pier on the adjacent beaches. No effects on the benthic fauna were found. Changes observed in the benthic macrofauna on the ocean beaches were well within the range attributable to the natural variation of an open coast system. The ocean beach macrofauna was observed to form a single community migrating on an off the beach with the seasons. On the sound beaches, changes were detected in the benthic macrofauna; however, these were attributed to a salinity increase during the 1981 sampling year. (Author).

Final report;Performed by the Asphalt Institute, sponsored by Federal Highway Administration, Office of Technology Applications, under contract no.This manual provides sequential, illustrated steps for performing the SUPERPAVE test procedures on asphalt cements. It also serves as a self-contained laboratory reference document on those procedures. These tests and procedures represent the results of the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) 5-year research effort to investigate and improve asphalt cement technology. This manual was developed under the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA's) National Asphalt Training Center.Test method for complex modulus (G*) and phase angle of asphalt binders using a dynamic shear rheometer -- Test method for measuring viscosity of asphalt binders using a rotational coaxial cylinder viscometer -- Test method for aging asphalt binders using a rolling thin film oven -- Test method for aging asphalt binders using a pressure aging vessel -- Test method for measuring creep stiffness (S) and slope (m) of the log stiffness versus log time curve of asphalt binders at low temperatures using the bending beam apparatus -- Test method for measuring tensile strain at failure of asphalt binders at low temperature using a direct tension apparatus -- Appendices.

- Proof of conspiracy : how Trump's international collusion is threatening American democracy / by Abramson, Seth,1976-author.(CARDINAL)783222;

Nader pitched Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Emirati Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and other Middle Eastern leaders a plan for a new pro-U.S., pro-Israel alliance of Arab nations that would fundamentally alter the geopolitics of the Middle East while marginalizing Iran, Qatar, and Turkey. To succeed, the plan would need a highly placed American politician willing to drop sanctions on Russia so that Vladimir Putin would in turn agree to end his support for Iran. They agreed the perfect American partner was Donald Trump, who had benefited immensely from his Saudi, Emirati, and Russian dealings for many years, and who, in 2015, became the only U.S. presidential candidate to argue for a unilateral end to Russian sanctions and a far more hostile approach to Iran. So begins New York Times bestselling author Seth Abramson's explosive new book Proof of Conspiracy: How Trump's International Collusion Threatens American Democracy, a story of international intrigue whose massive cast of characters includes Israeli intelligence operatives, Russian oligarchs, Saudi death squads, American mercenary companies, Trump's innermost circle, and several members of the Trump family as well as Trump himself-all part of a clandestine multinational narrative that takes us from Washington, D.C. and Moscow to the Middle Eastern capitals of Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Jerusalem, Cairo, Tehran, and Doha. Proof of Conspiracy is a chilling and unforgettable depiction of the dangers America and the world now face"--
