- Evaluation of the AASHTO design equations and recommended improvements / by Daleiden, Jerome F.(CARDINAL)311465; American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.(CARDINAL)138446; Strategic Highway Research Program (U.S.)(CARDINAL)298325;
Includes bibliographical references (pages 147-148).Executive summary -- Introduction -- Data sources -- Data processing -- Evaluation of the flexible pavement design equation -- Improvements to the flexible pavement design equation -- Evaluation of the rigid pavement design equation -- Improvements to the rigid pavement design equation -- Evaluation of the overlay design procedures -- Conclusions -- References -- Appendices.One of the primary objectives of the Strategic Highway Research Program Long Term Pavement Performance (SHRP-LTPP) studies is to improve the ability of highway engineers to design new and overlaid pavement structures. The specific analyses discussed in this report were aimed at evaluation of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) pavement design equations (for both new and overlaid pavements). Initial analyses confirm that although improvements have been made to the AASHTO design equations over the years, the equations still do not fully explain data from North American pavements. Recommendations for the improvement of the design equations are provided; however, the highway community at large supports replacing the limited equations with a comprehensive design system that considers all distress types.

- OECD DIVINE element 1 : accelerated dynamic pavement testing / by Kenis, William.(CARDINAL)314160; Wang, Weijun.(CARDINAL)740473; Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center.(CARDINAL)286897;
Includes bibliographical references (pages 101-102).Background -- Design of the experiment -- Construction of test pavements -- Materials characterization -- Measurement systems -- Measurements and data collection -- Data analysis -- Summary and conclusions -- Appendices -- References.Final report;The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Road Transport Research Programme launched a major 2-year study into the relationship between heavy vehicle dynamic loading and pavement and bridge wear, known as the Dynamic Interaction of the Vehicle and INfrastructure Experiment (DIVINE) project. The project consisted of six interrelated research projects. This report describes Element 1 of the program, which consists of the design of the experiment, testing method, method of data collection, results of the data analysis, and major findings and recommendations. Testing was performed at the Canterbury (New Zealand) Accelerated Pavement Testing Indoor Facility.

How likely is it that a poll is correct? Is it smart to buy last year's highest-performing stock? These questions all involve the interpretation of statistics, and this film is an introduction to this vitally important subject in today's data-driven society. Explanations for terms such as mean, median, percentile, quartile, statistically significant, and bell curve, and scores of other statistical concepts are covered. The emphasis is on the role of statistics in daily life, giving a broad overview of how statistical tools are employed in risk assessment, college admissions, drug testing, fraud investigation, and a host of other applications.DVD.
